1836/37  PROVIDENCE CITY DIRECTORY

N.B. In order to avoid needless repetition, the word street is
omitted in the direction -- it
will however, be understood, that 10
Water means 10 Water street, and the numbers of the houses are
given on all such  streets as are numbered. Persons unacqainted
in the City, in looking for numbers will observe that the odd numbers
are all on one side, and the even numbers all on the other, on all
streets except those running by the water side.

Where two directions are given, the first is the place business, the
last the place of residence.
